I want to know about the Holy Spirit

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the third aspect of God. When Jesus left the earth after his resurrection he promised to send us the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49, John 14:15-17).

What does the Holy Spirit do?

The Holy Spirit shows us the truth (John 16:13) and he teaches us (John 14:26, Romans 8:14). He also helps us pray to God when we are too sick or too sad to pray (Romans 8:26).

Where is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is in our hearts. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, the Bible says that we are God’s temple and he lives inside of us. He comes to us when we are baptized or when we accept Jesus as our Savior (Matthew 3:11).

How can the Holy Spirit do all this?

He speaks to us. It’s not normally in actual words, but sometimes it is how you feel. Have you ever done something bad or tried to do something bad but felt guilty about it? That sick feeling in your stomach could be the Holy Spirit encouraging you not to do that bad thing.

The Holy Spirit also uses other people like friends, teachers, parents, books or pastors to help us know what is right. If we read the Bible we can learn how to behave and what is the right or the wrong thing to do.

How do I know when the Holy Spirit is working in me?

The Holy Spirit is always trying to guide us to do the right thing, but sometimes we can get confused because we don’t know what is right or people that we trust are giving us different answers. If you aren’t sure you need to pray and read the Bible and eventually the Holy Spirit will help you make the right choice.

Can I make the wrong choice?

Yes. God gives us free will, which means that he never makes us do anything. It is our choice to believe in God and it is our choice to do good or bad things. We should always try to do good but we all make the wrong choices sometimes. We are lucky to have a merciful God who forgives us when we do something wrong. All you have to do is ask him to forgive us. God wants us to love him so he can do good things for us (Romans 8:28).

What are the Fruit of the Spirit?

They aren’t something to eat! In Galatians 5:22, Paul lists some ways that we will act in if we have the Holy Spirit living in us. They are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control.

When Paul calls these things fruit he is being figurative or symbolic. He means that we are like a tree with fruit. We will do these good things because the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts.

What is Pentecost?

Pentecost is the day that the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ followers, just like he promised (Acts 2:1-13). They were waiting in a room together. There was the sound of a wind and flames appeared on the heads of the people and the Holy Spirit came to all of them. All of them were able to speak in languages they didn’t know. After this Jesus’ followers started to tell everyone they could about Jesus and his gift to us.
