just FYI-
in 1 Corinthians 12 Paul is talking about many gifts but the same spirit-
1 Cor. 12:10,11
“10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.” so there are those who the Holy Spirit has blessed with the gift to speak in tongues… and also those who INTERPRET… hmmmmm… interesting! how many times in church have you seen someone who is speaking in tongues with an interpreter (himself or someone else)… i have never seen it!
Read 1 Corinthians 14:27,28 which says “If anyone speaks in a tongue, two–or at the most three–should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.
28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God.”
Also the previous verses state that Paul would rather people prophesy for if they speak in tongues in church, who acn understand them unless there is an interpreter who? THIS IS WHY YOU ARE NOT TO SPEAK IN TONGUES IN CHURCH UNLESS SOMEONE IS INTERPRETING WHAT YOU ARE SAYING THROUGH GOD’S SPIRIT. (just want to make this point before i make my next one ) people do not speak to each other in tongues, but to God and this is why it is better done at home.
my next point- people who are demonically possesed can “speak in tongues”- read He came to set the Captive Free and Prepare For War by Dr. Rebecca Brown. She goes into detail about how people who are serving satan will go to churches and be cursing God in “tongues”- demonic tongues- and no one knows because they do NOT follow God’s word where it says to have an interpreter. so it is less widespread than we think. at least in church. the gift does exist, I agree.
just my thoughts. and i do think that today we can still speak in tongues because JESUS is the SAME yesterday TODAY AND FOREVER!
God Bless,
