Hey John,
Is it right or wrong, good or evil, to obey one’s parents? My contention is that they couldn’t have understood that it was bad or wrong to disobey God until they had knowledge of what right and wrong was. Children may have limited knowledge of right and wrong, or why they should listen to their parents; however, as a parent, I would have to say it is the parents job to help the child understand these things. Not to punish them because the parent hasn’t done that job, not to heap tremendous pain during childbirth or eternal damnation. If we weighed the ‘parenting’ of God in this instance against the supposedly less good human conception of parenting we get something evil. What I want to know is, the supposedly morally perfect God does a whole lot of things that to the human mind are completely evil: why?
