Brother, what I am telling you below is what took me about 40 years to learn—you can read how Jesus turned my life around in 2001 in the forum, “Is there a man that isn’t into porn?” and my lengthy answer if you feel led.
You said, “About a year ago I was in a jail and accepted Jesus as my savior and confessed my sins.”
The Bible says if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. If you did that then you were saved a year ago and you only need to do that once.
You said, “I know this is not going to be an easy walk.”
Brother, the Christian life is an impossible walk in the energy of our own flesh. The sooner we learn to die to our own self effort the better. Jesus invites you to enter into the Promised Land by faith and throw all of your self effort away and rest on Him and His finished work and count on Him to live the Christian life in you and through you. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ, yet not I but Christ lives in me, and the life that I live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” It is all Him and none of you and me. Surrender to Jesus and by faith listen to Him to lead you internally by His Holy Spirit.
You said, “I know that for now the only thing that has changed is that there is a place for me in Heaven.”
Don’t take this wrong brother but if you only came forward or confessed your sins to get to heaven then you missed what salvation really is—Salvation is not just getting your sins forgiven because why would Paul say in Romans 5:10, “For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled shall we be saved through His life! You are not saved by the death of Christ you are saved by the life of Christ. You could not have one without the other but don’t mistake one for the other. Otherwise why would Paul say in 1 Corinthians that if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins? Was there something Paul was missing? No, Paul understood that Jesus came to give us His life to live in us and it is His resurrected life living in us that saved us. However, it is all a package as I said.
New brother in Christ. We are all in this faith walk in Christ together. We all fail everyday because the Bible says that anything that is not done in faith is sin and most of us spend a lot of our day not walking in faith dependent on Him. Don’t beat yourself up over stupid things that you do. Agree with God that they were stupid and go on in Him.
If Jesus leads you in this I would suggest memorizing and meditating on the above verses but especially Galatians 2:20, but only if that is what Jesus is telling you to do as you seek His leading. Just talk to Jesus, who now is your best friend, and He will teach you the truth and the truth (Jesus) will set you free.
