Hi Chris. You asked for advice, here’s mine….
First of all, you can’t fix him. At this point, all you can do personally is to pray for him, for your Mom, and for your family. I won’t venture to guess what’s wrong with him but I can tell you that no amount of talking to him is going to help. There is a battle going on for his soul and the sad/scary part is, you aren’t equipped to do battle at this point in your life. You don’t have the tools neccessary to fight and win.
Now that I’ve said that, let me explain. You grew up Christian, you know Jesus, but you don’t follow Him. He isn’t a part of your daily life. You aren’t attending a local Church regularly and I’m assuming, like alot of us, that your prayer life isn’t what it should be. I’m not saying you aren’t a Christian, I’m saying you aren’t living like one. That isn’t to say that you’re a bad person, that you’re going to hell, etc. I’m just saying that your walk with God is not what you or He would want it to be. This leaves you without a support system and without the tools neccessary to deal with evil, with sin, with all the many problems satan throws at us in order to cause harm. You’ve left yourself wide open and painted a target on your chest!
So, my suggestion to you is:
-Find a local church and commit to it.
-Ask your church to pray for Bill and your family
-Find other prayer chains at other churches within your community and ask for prayer.
-Ask for prayer on this website
-Pray! Ask God what to do, how to do it. Ask for direction.
Above all, rejoice. Not that your family is in trouble but that God is using this situation to bring you back to Him. He loves you and wants more for you than what you have now. He is as real today as He was back in the bible days. He wants you to know and love Him personally, not just as a figurehead. God is a very personal and loving God. He really cares what happens to you personally, your Mom, Bill, and the rest of your family. Never forget that if you were the only person on earth, Jesus would have died for just you. He loves you that much.
I’ll be praying for you!
