The covenant was very important. It bound not only everyone involved in making the covenant but also the families or members of the tribes if it was a tribal covenant. Whoever broke the covenant was punished by their own family or tribal members. Does death ring a bell? Yes death was the required payment at minimum. So It was very important to remember all the terms of the covenant.
