I’d like to share a couple of things with you and anyone else who may read this post.
In 1Thessalonians 5:18 It says:
“In everything give thanks;for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”
Contrary to what I had heard for years:
“This doesn’t mean that we are to give thanks for the situation we are in, but we are to thank Him through it.”
It’s taken the Lord a good many years of patience for me to realize that nothing could be further from the truth.
Paul was saying that we are to give God thanks for the situation. Why, you may ask?
There are several different reasons; but IMHO, the most important one is this; When we are at our lowest(weakest), we have only one place to go, and that’s to the Lord.
He wants to show us His love and power to us, by working through us.
Stated differently, it’s times like these that one grows closer to the Lord.
As we grow closer to the Lord, His love for others will flow through us even greater than before. As we realize Gods power working through us, we will draw closer to Him in response.
I believe this is what the apostle Paul meant when he said: “For when I am weak, then am I strong.”
If WE are in control of a given situation, we tend to do things our way.
I can’t speak for others; but for me, my way and Gods way rarely match.
As some (most) of you know, I’m a firm believer that God IS in control.
Jesus even went so far as to let us know that:
“Even the very hairs on your head are numbered”
So if that’s not a great example of how much our Heavenly Father cares for us, I don’t know what is!
So you see Brandon, the Lord allowed things to happen to us in order to bring us to the point where God can work freely in and through our life.
Self is no longer trying to be in control (“for when I am weak”).
Thank Him that He IS in control of (y)our situation, and (y)our outlook/perception of the situation will change from one of helplessness, bleak,…etc.; to one of great expectation of seeing God working through us. (“Then am I strong.”)
To echo what others have already said:
“Keep reading Gods Word , and keep the conversations with Him going!”
I would share more, but this is getting sort of lengthy.
