Right on Pastor Deb! It seems to me that many folks have forgotten the authority that God gives Christians to defeat the enemy, or don’t realize they have it. Even before going to the cross, Jesus provided authority over the enemy by using his name during spiritual warfare.
The seventy-two men came back in great joy. “Lord,” they said, “even the demons obeyed us when we gave them a command in your name!” Jesus answered them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Listen! I have given you authority, so that you can walk on snakes and scorpions and overcome all the power of the Enemy, and nothing will hurt you. But don’t be glad because the evil spirits obey you; rather be glad because your names are written in heaven.”
The enemy has been defeated, but we must assert that victory over the spiritual forces that still seek to tear us away from God on a daily basis. For instance, say I am experiencing doubt of my faith. I can overcome the enemy by saying the following prayer. “Dear God, in Jesus name I rebuke the spirit of doubt. Get thee behind me satan! Get out of my life, mind, and spirit. Amen”
Putting on the Full Armor of God is also essential to engaging in spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:14-18 In the study link below, I discovered that each piece of the Armor is found by knowing the Word of God.
When we know God’s word, we can use it in certain situations to overcome the enemy. I like to use the following scripture as a spiritual 911 during times of temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear:but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.
Spiritually the enemy still goes about two and fro throughout the world seeking those he may devour. satan’s favorite meal is new Christians, and those seeking to grow in their faith or who are redidicating their lives to Christ. He comes to steal hope, kill faith, and destroy relationships with God.
Thank you Jesus for the authority to overcome! Amen
