One of the other replies stated it correctly that being wealthy is not inherently evil. Contrary to current assumptions there is no archealogical evidence of a small gate in ancient Israel where a camel had to be on bended knee to enter.

That being the case what Jesus said has to be taken literally. That a grotesque attempt to thread a camel through the eye of a needle would only be possible by a miracle of God. Similarly a man expecting to enter heaven by virtue of his riches would be impossible without God. To put that last statement into context it was commonly believed in those times (and I have to say even today) that riches were a blessing from God… therefore the richer you are the more of God’s favour you have.
