Pastor Eric,
I looked up the NIV translation at Bible Gateway of Acts 8:36-38. The following is the verses as taken from the NIV………..
36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”
38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot, then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
The NIV leaves off the answer to the eunuchs question of “why shouldn’t I be baptized” or as the KJV reads, “what doth hinder me from being baptized?.
The answer to the eunuchs question is found in verse 37 of the KJV…….
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
According to Romans 10:9-10 confession is made unto salvation. If the eunuch had never made that confession he would have went in the water a dry sinner and he would have came up a wet sinner.
I hope I have made my answer plain and understandable. I look forward to reading your reply.
God bless.
