All of them are translations, but I like the NIV. Through it, I was able to see for the first time what a bold and courageous person Jesus was. Just because something is easy to read, doesn’t mean it’s not as scholarly. The scholars that put it together went back to the same source documents and have also had the benefit of more recent findings; in addition, the study notes can help put the words in context.
