While I think Chaplain presented some good insights, I think that this reference has something to do with the passage that says “the Law and the prophets were until John. John was, in effect, the last prophet of the Old covenant, serving the purpose of being the ‘herald’ of the Messiah, who ushered in the New Covenant. During Christ’s preaching, He stated that men of ‘violence’ were literally pushing into the Kingdom, even though it wasn’t fully inaugurated until Calvary. In this fashion, the ‘least’ of these had more privilege in effect, than John. Remember the prophecy, under the ‘new covenant, things are different. Each person will KNOW God, He writes His law on our hearts, etc. In this way, they/we were privileged in a way that John wasn’t.
