Happy New Years!
Every New Year is celebrated across the world. It is a day of remembrance and renewal. Remembrance of what has happened in our personal lives, and also what has happened in the world around us. It is as well the start of a brand new year, one with hopes and dreams. A year that we can dedicate to the Lord in service and in search of His blessings.

Fruitcake Toss Day
Did Aunt Sue send you another one of those "amazing" Christmas Fruitcakes again? Well, this is a special day to honor that very fruitcake. If you are like me you want to "honor" it by chucking it as far away from you as you possibly can!
Join the millions around the world that are like us by grabbing that special desert and putting it to good use. You may want to gather in groups or maybe complete this solemn task alone in your back yard. You may want to use a target, like a garbage can or a large rock, but one thing is for certain, you gotta toss that thing until it is no more.

Fast of 10th Tevet
This Jewish holiday is a very special one. Tevet, as it is found in the book of Esther, is a time of the year remembered when king Nebuchadnezzar tormented the Jewish people and they were famined like never before. In common day, the Jewish communities spend time in fasting and prayer to mark this day in remembrance of who died in the Holocaust.

Ukrainian Orthodox Christmas
Did you notice that Ukrainian Christmas is 13 days after the December 25th Christmas? Yeah, I did to. So I just had to find out why. It is quite complex in a very simple way. You see, the Ukrainian church does not go by the Gregorian calendar that we use, they use the Julian calendar, which, you guessed it, has a difference of 13 days. No kidding.

National Clean Off Your Desk Day
Some people don't really need to celebrate this day, but for the rest of us who made new years resolutions of being organized and staying ahead, it is probably a good thing to start the year off right by starting clean. I got many piles on my desk, "Right-Away", "Need to File", "Garbage" etc. But today I'm cleaning it all off, filing everything that needs filing, everything in its proper place and I vow to make sure my desk is clean all year long! Wait a minute; this means I'll have nothing to celebrate next year....

Balloon Ascension Day
I don't know about you, but it is a little too cold to go outside to float a balloon. So why do we have a balloon day in the middle of winter? You see, George Washington (the first president of the USA) liked balloons, who doesn't? But he liked them so much that he helped a French guy named Blanchard float a very large balloon, a hot air balloon. It was America's first historical balloon ascension dated to 1793. They went all the way from Philadelphia to New Jersey

International Thank-You Day
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory; it is a day to say "Thank-you". It isn't Thanksgiving, where we are more-or-less thankful for something specific, but more of a international day where we are thankful to each other. Sound about right?

Martin Luther King Jr.
I hope we all have the same dream here, and keep following in Christ's footsteps daily. Started in November 1983 by President Regan in the United States, I believe this is a holiday that we can globally pause for a moment and reflect on the good that Martin Luther King Jr. had done and how we can continue to do good every day of out lives.

National Hugging Day
A hug is not a good thing to waste, treasure each and every hug you receive. But as the old saying so obviously states, it is much better to give than to receive. Give someone a hug today, you never know what you may receive in return.
