Hi,

My dad is the director of a school for teens. He understands them and can help them, but he doesn't know that I need him a lot and he has a hard time showing me love or making any effort to understand me. My mother has tried to talk to him and tell him that it bothers my sisters and I, but he seems to think that since we are pretty happy and we're talking to him that everything ok. All I want is for my dad to come to me and ask me how my day went or express his love, or even hug me. My mom tells me to express myself, but I don't think I can tell my dad. It's really hard on me. I've been praying for my dad to show his love for many years and it's not working, and I'm scared to tell him my feelings because I'm afraid he won't take me seriously. If you want to talk, my main email is jarabangel88@yahoo.com and my screen name for AOL is awesomeyellow88

PS If you find it in your heart, please pray for my situation and that I'll let God take control-Charisa

Hi Charisa,

I know how it feels to be a daughter whose father doesn't show much attention or physical love to his daughter. My dad was the same way. It hurt really bad because a young teenage girl needs that kind of interaction with her father. It's how we learn to interact with our future spouse. It's also how we see God, the Father. A Daddy should make you feel loved and protected. He should make you feel like you are his little princess.

It may be hard for you to express all of this to your dad, but please understand that communication is the most important thing in a relationship. Even if all you can do is to write it out, do it! Your dad needs to know how you feel and he needs to hear it from you, not your mom. You can just copy what you said in your post and give it to your dad ~ that would say it all. Or you can mail it to him if that makes you feel better, but at least he will know how you feel. He probably doesn't realize at all what he is doing to you emotionally by not giving you the attention you need.

But through all of this, be very careful to stay close to Jesus because I know from experience that when a young girl doesn't get the attention she needs from her father, she will get it from other males. That is extremely dangerous! Unfortunately, I was lost when it happened to me, but to help you understand how dangerous it is; in my situation, I got raped when I was 14. All because I needed to feel loved and accepted.

If you would like, you can include my post with the words you want to say to your dad. He needs to know how you feel and what you need.

Sometimes we all need someone to jerk us back into reality to see what is really going on.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know how it goes for you and I'll be praying that God will open your father's eyes and that God will be your comfort through this time of hardship for you. Stay in the Word and stay active in your church youth group, and most of all, stay close to the One Who loves you more than anything!!

In His Amazing Grace,

Melode
