McCain blew it!!!

McCain blew it!!!
I have been a fairly big fan of McCain... mostly because he was a good looking young man, he seemed well able to handle all situations and also because he is a resident of Arizona. He is three months older than I am, so I feel I sort of know the kind of world he grew up in, which is certainly different than today's world. I always admired him from whatever I heard on the news... you all know his story about being a prisoner for five years.

I never had any reason to frown upon him... until today. How can that be? He passed away yesterday at 81 years old. The problem is, he disrespected our President. The United States has had some presidents that I haven't cared for a whole lot. Nevertheless, I have accepted our current President, overlooked many faults, and gave him credit for the things he has accomplished, especially with no past experience.

So what did Mr. McCain do? He forbid President Trump to come to his funeral! I am appalled at that! I can't even put into words what I think about that. First off, it is grossly disrespectful. Any disagreements Mr. McCain had with the president should have been allowed to discontinue at his death. Mr. McCain should have handled them before he made the decision to allow his life to end. What do you think? Do you think he had the right to forbid the president to come to his funeral?

Hi Sarah.

Well...it is his funeral and his last wishes should be respected by everyone, but mostly by our President. It would be most unseemly for Trump to force his presence upon those bidding McCain farewell at the funeral. Trump's presence would turn it into a sideshow. I am sure Trump understands this and will honor this man by abiding by his and his family's wishes.

McCain and Trump had no love for each other and I believe it was due to McCain's behavior over the last few years. I think his brain tumor had been affecting his mind and personality for some time, well before the public was ever aware of his condition.

It is my opinion that McCain should have stepped down from his elected office when he was given the diagnosis years ago. I think it was selfish pride to keep another from serving in his place and, frankly, dangerous to have a senator so affected. I do not think he was thinking clearly or reacting appropriately during Obama's last term, nor during these recent years.

There is nothing that takes away from his honor and sacrifice earlier in his life, nor from his stint of public service. But...as many blacks apparently feel about Ben Carson, so do I feel about John McCain, which is that Conservatives have been betrayed through his words and actions during his time being affected by the brain cancer and accompanying therapy.

He always was a bit of a loose cannon for the Republicans, but in recent years he sided more with the Left-leaning Democrats and they, of course, thought he was the very best sort of Republican. We do not need Progressive Republicans. What we need are more Conservative Democrats...Blue Dogs.

Nobody thinks and acts like themselves when they have a brain tumor and spend much of their time fighting it with therapy. The older one is, the more it takes from you in both mind and body. He should have had the good grace to resign his elected office, if not as soon as the diagnosis, then certainly when the battle got real for him. Either that or there should have been a special appointment made by the Senate to fill the position pending health outcomes. That is what was done for our governor the year before last when he was fighting brain cancer for about a year. The outcome was good and he is back on the job, running again and will most likely win his re-election bid.

That's my two cents worth, anyway.

Here is an excellent article from The American Thinker about this subject:

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/08/8_27_2018_15_43.html

And...some excerpts:

<<We know that when Republicans die, Democrats and their supporters in the Democrat-Media-Propaganda Complex often celebrate their demise. They do not show any restraint in their postmortem comments because they feel justified in stating publicly that the world is now better off and no longer contaminated by a conservative politician who was pro-wall, anti-illegal immigration, pro-gun, or anti-abortion. If the dearly departed was a religious Christian, he is openly mocked. Republicans are generally regarded as such abominations to the left-wing agenda and societal advancement that their deaths are seen as celebrations not for the life they led, but for the lives in this country they can no longer soil. >>

<<The offending Trump tweet that has been the source of so much ire on the part of the punditry and press reads as follows: "My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!" The flag at his Virginia golf course was lowered to half-mast in Senator McCain's honor, as was the flag at the White House. Apparently, the White House flag was raised back to full mast after 48 hours.>>

The flag etiquette is correct; it flies at half-mast the day of the death and the day after the death...48 hours.

<<I am certain that Trump did not expect to be invited either to attend or speak at the funeral, and, indeed, he was not. I also conjecture that had he been asked to attend or speak, he would have done so out of respect and would have comported himself appropriately. Further, I do not think the president was morally obligated to say anything about John McCain's death, however, sending out a respectful tweet and lowering the White House flag to half-mast was the right thing to do. It was downright presidential. And he should just leave it at that, knowing that the Democrat-Media Propaganda-Complex will never let it go.
>>

There will never be a win-win situation for this current president. There will never be anything approaching the adoration given by the media to Obama. The Left will never let go of their obsession with getting Donald Trump out of the White House by any means necessary. That is to the detriment of America and the citizens of America.

But...the more they obsess and the more they insist and push and undermine and insult, the more they actually work against themselves. They are doing exactly what those who support Trump expect from their ilk and that is a big reason why all the "deplorables" will vote for him again and why others are joining their ranks.

Thanks for sharing this, Jeanne.
I think part of the problem is that most of the people who are running our country now were born after the second world war, when mothers went to work and were no longer in the home. Actually, they started going to work DURING the second world war because all the men were gone and it was necessary for mothers to leave the home and the children during the day so they could fill in for the men that were gone in the service.

Mothers found that they enjoyed the attention they got from being in the workplace. They liked making money. So they continued and children were left to make their own way in the home. It also cause a rise in divorce as women fell to the interest of men that stayed home and were not in the danger of being killed or being in prison.

So our society fell. At the same time, with children having only one parent in the home, and that at part time, there wasn't time for parents to deal with manners and good behavior. Those things were left for someone else to deal with. Our current political situation and our current gun situation are both results of children not being trained up right by their two parents.

Hi Sarah.

You present an interesting topic, but I am not sure what it has to do with John McCain's funeral or President Trump's words and actions in reference to him and it.

Could you connect the dots for me, please?

Hi Sarah.

Well..I guess the larger picture of our history is filled with sharp turns: the Revolutionary War; the Bill of Rights; the Civil War; Woodrow Wilson pointing the way to Democratic Socialism and a further rise of the oligarchy as the governing body; further socialization; industrialization, world wars; a depression turned Great from economic meddling; the Great Society; birth control leading to abortion-on-demand; the demand for equality leading to equality of outcome and the victim mentality of identity politics; and the sheltering of our youth leading to prolonged adolescence and the emergence of snowflakes that need cradle to grave care from an ever-growing State.

Add to that the proliferation of Progressive-driven misinformation from nearly all media; the social media monster and a plugged-in populace that increasingly fills their minds with a lot mostly incorrect and useless blather...and the resulting dilemma of not being able to discern truth or trust our sources for news. I mean..there is no photo or video or audio that can be trusted anymore, let alone something that somebody has written. There are no rules for most of the media anymore, just get an attention-grabbing headline or soundbite out there and let the chips fall where they may.

Yes, we are in a mess from all of these.

Etiquette?! Who cares about etiquette? Tradition...same. Principles...phooey on principles. Decorum...forget it.

I will readily agree that the lack of mothers in the homes while children are growing is a major source of our problems. This implies, of course, that if mothers are homemaking and child rearing, then fathers must be earning a living for the family.

So it is both of these that are important to the next generation. If either is lacking, there are going to be problems...unless drastic measures are taken to fully compensate for the loss of one or the other.

Actually...and statistically...it is the loss of the father that is the most damaging for both male and female children. Psychologically, emotionally, physically, spiritually there is damaging loss without a father in the home as much as possible. And...for female children, the father must be biological for her optimal stability. Assuming here that the father is not an abusive psychopath, but that goes for the mother, as well.

All of this is no good, very bad. But...the pendulum swings and I suspect that the US and the rest of humanity (or enough to keep it going) will survive to find a new and better path to harmony and prosperity and muddle along until old fogies are once again worrying about the future and the youth and muttering how it didn't use to be like this.

I guess this all relates to everything and if it does than it is on topic for the silliness over McCain and his final wishes and Trump's response either being what is proper or not depending upon political viewpoint.

TO SAY THAT MCCAIN BLEW IT IS SOMEWHAT IRRESPONSIBLE WHEN YOU THINK OF WHAT HE CAME THROUGH TO GET HERE. FEW IF ANY AMERICANS WILL BE RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS LIKE HE OR ROBERT DOLE OR FOR THAT MATTER THE SENIOR BUSH.
MANY THINGS SHOULD BE OVERLOOKED WHEN YOU CONSIDER THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Jim, it will be interesting in the future to witness how either Bush is treated by the media when their funerals are at hand.

Also, interesting to imagine how Donald Trump would be treated by the media and by Progressives should he kick the bucket or even become ill.

Then...imagine how Conservatives might react and the media to Barrack Obama's demise.

Would we be witness to, in either case, country-wide respectful mourning or jubilation....or maybe something else less pleasant in either case? I would bet the farm that anything unpleasant would be coming from the Progressives over Trump's demise and that anything that Progressives thought smacked of disrespect for the deceased Obama would be met with hatred and rioting or at least severe chastising, demands for retribution via lose of employment and status or office, and shaming by naming the offender racist.

Remember the blue socks scenario?

As I wrote; decorum...who needs it?

It is traditional principles that help keep Conservatives from acting as Progressives do.

BTW...I hope you all are staying cool. It is ugly hot and humid here and I can only imagine how Florida and Arizona have been this August. Hopefully, we will get a thunderstorm WITH RAIN to break this dangerous weather.
