Mike, interested in knowing what caused you to want to start a singles ministry? Would that be ok to ask?

When I was first divorced, and thru the urgings of friends...I joined a few(not all at once), and found it uncomfortable & awkward. I felt like we may as well have bright orange jumpsuits that say SINGLE in big, bold, black letters. Guys would gawk, women behaved competitively towards one another over the one or two "knights" in the group. One group had worship & Bible discussions on singleness topics while everyone sneaked peeks at the opposite sex. I liked the idea of having barbecues, and ranch outings, and beach trips, game nights, etc. But the idea of having worship & Bible study, sitting around in a circle facing one another with diverse "vibes" going on , I just preferred to go to the churches regular services.
I will tell you, one church started a coffee house night at a rented place, and I thought that was GREAT! It was sponsored & participated in by all the christian churches in the community, they took donations for the rent. When you walked in, there were game tables, sofas & recliners, a DJ playing hot, christian music, refreshments, people could display their art work, poetry readings, contests, and Karaoke. Alot of people showed up for this, and it was pleasant. It was well organized and everyone pitched in to clean up. It didn't feel like the awkwardness of "singles" sitting around in a circle facing each other, discussing things that had everyone yawning. It just felt like we were people, enjoying a night out with friends. If you played an instument, you could do a little performance. It was nice. And I saw more people talking with each other there, than I ever did at a backyard barbecue, or a Single's discussion. You might consider something like that. By the way...how is it going?
