Science confirms the earth is round.

Science confirms the earth is round.
Ec 1:6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

Ec 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

any weatherman, can appreciate those 2 verses. the air currents that go around the entire earth, could only return if indeed the earth was round.

the waters, being evaporated into the atmosphere, could only return once again to any river east to west, if the earth was round.

Isa 40:21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

need anything more be given, than images from the space shuttle,or any satellite "circling" the earth?

science, indeed proves biblical concepts.

Talk about stretching a verse to say what you want it to say.

In reply to redsox, the air currents which circle the earth go west to east, which is why the prevailing wind is westerly, yet the Bible mentions winds going south then turning northwards, which is not at all the same thing.

As for "the circle if the earth", the earth isn't circular, it's spherical (an oblate spheroid, to be precise). It sounds as though the author of that verse thought that the earth was round and flat, like a dinner plate.

The Moslems are also straining texts in the Koran to prove that it contains scientific foreknowledge, but in neither their case nor that of the Christian fundamentalists is it very convincing.

Why do people feel like God wrote us a science textbook? That just seems silly to me.

I am, in fact, a scientist and a Christian. I don't want to compromise on my science and I don't want to twist the scriptures to make them say things they don't.

Nevertheless Job 26:10 says "He has described a circle on the face of the waters, at the boundary between light and darkness".

Shuttle photographs of earth half lit by the sun clearly show the circle which delineates the boundary between light and darkness.

When a point of light shines on a sphere, a circle is described at the boundary between light and darkness.

Ps. 33:7 says "He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses."

This looks very much like someone understood the effects of the gravitational effect of the moon upon the tides on earth. They are effectively 'gathered up in a heap'. It could of course just be coincidence, but that is what it says.

Regards Chris.

Isn't it amazing, the lengths people will go to, to deny the simple wisdom and truth of the Bible.

What wisdom and truth are people denying?

No need for photos from the space station. Dealing with GPS derived altitudes proves the irregularity of the shape of earth.

No doubt mankind spent a few tons of gold "discovering" what was already revealed in the Bible. Paul hinted at some convergence of scientific thought and the spiritual like in this intriguing passage in 1 Cor. 15:39-41
"All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. [40] There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. [41] There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory."

The Bible isn't a history book, nor do I believe it qualifies as a science textbook to any degree. It is the message God meant for all people of all generations to have in their possession, sufficient to know him, that he might know us. There are some fundamental things that never change, like Paul spoke of. Surely when God inspired men to record holy scriptures he realized the nature of science includes some remarkable changes, over and over, such as Sir Isaac Newton having to be corrected. But the nature of the spiritual doesn't change, the reason why I think God wasn't and isn't much concerned with science. It's the best natural men can come up with to redefine what God defined. Science depends on what's observable, and science theories/laws depend on consistency of the observed to be observed over and over to give rise to the same conclusions. Yet another observable quantity is found to refute conclusions made over former observations. So it is science thought can't contribute to the eternal, valued only among the natural folks.

Whatever connection the Bible shows to current science is at best, in my opinion, mostly coincidence, except for those things that won't likely change, like the hydrographic cycle, which did change each side of Noah's flood. It might change again in the New Earth. What we would agree upon today concerning science and the Bible might have got us both hanged 200 years ago by the top scholars of the world. The same might be true 500 years hence. If the Lord tarries the planet might have rid itself of all scientists and settled in on mostly pursuit of the former paleo diet and decentralized societal existence until Jesus does return.

The polar and subtropical jetstreams in general circulate west to east, but usually dips decidedly south to north and back to south, etc, affecting our weather, making lower wind currents change directions from all points of the compass. Notice they are continuous bands, returning unto themselves. Air around high or low pressure systems rotate counterclockwise or clockwise. The N. hemisphere has tradewinds typically from the NE, while Southern hemisphere trade winds come from the SE. The recent hurricanes have spawned from the African jet stream out of the east crossing westerly over the Atlantic Ocean.

The observations in scripture obviously has to do with where one is on Earth.

Mt24:27-41 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Lk 17:30-36 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Like dovegiven mentioned about where one's reference is for the direction of the jet streams to match up with those scriptures; the night time in vs 34 shows a point of view that depends upon where one is located upon the Earth at the moment people are being taken. ie... Nightime event = asleep in bed. Morning event = custom was for the wemon to grind the days grain in the morning. Daytime = in the field. Different times of day for the same event, which shows us that the Earth is round.

btw... we see eagles gathered in the air above a carcuss, so too for when the Lord returns in the air, when those who are to be taken, are taken.
