In my class, we do not meditate AT ALL! There is no incorporation of any part of these Oriental religions in ANY part of the class. If the class requires that you meditate, meditate on God! You don't have to forfeit the whole class! Just because they tell you to "clear your minds" doesn't mean you have to lol Go to sleep during that "meditation" for all I care lol Both Judo and Jiu jitsu are great martial arts for weaker people especially. The techniques in both martial arts use leverage as well as several other things so that a weak person can easily defeat an opponent at LEAST 2-3 times his size. As a weaker, smaller girl myself, I find these techniques very useful. I have defeated and repeatedly defeat men 200 pounds + in my class. Don't forfeit these two essential martial arts just because you don't have the intelligence to find the solution to this "not-so-much-of-a-problem." I have been thinking of Judo or Jiu Jitsu, especially jiu jitsu. As a born again Christian for 38 years, raised in Christian born again environment I am also wondering if it is good for my girls, both confessing to be saved. As a boy I was not allowed by my father to do judo cause he said it was occult. I really would like to know which parts of the training that are dangerous if I send my daughters to Jiu Jitsu or Judo. It is easy to be caught up in Christian hysteria against anything that sounds a bit different - like kicking is not Christian, so lets just condem the whole thing.. oh yea it is from Asia, probably occult etc etc. I have over the last weeks thought of this and started searching in jiu jitsu websites and forums as well as Christian forums for what is up and down in this matter. I understand that it is mostly the meditation that the Christians find dangerous. I have also wondered sometimes, that if that is the case why not meditate on the Holy Spirit or Jesus, is it lack of Christian imagination or pure Christian panic attack? Or is it simply not possible to sit and do Christian meditation while learning self defence technics? Maybe I should join to try for myself, before I put the girls through the ordeal. And you know , you would be right.. If christianity slipped thru the ages and "faded" away then another religion took popularity that is exactly what would happen. All in all we need to understand Paganism was here since the beginning of time. Christianity came in during the time God sent his son. All the celebrations, all the rituals, the sacrifices that the bible speaks of in the old testement is pagan rooted. Christianity hadnt come into the picture yet.
