An article in the newspaper last week addressed the 'new guidelines' from the Vatican regarding how child abuse cases 'should' be addressed.
These 'guidelines' insist that bishops, rather than the police should deal with child abuse cases in the first instance.
The document was drawn up by Cardinal William Levada, the head of the 'Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith'.....Bennie's old job in his past 'incarnation' as Cardinal Ratzinger.
This particular gentleman seems to have engaged in all the reprehensible behaviour seen in a majority of US bishops...while he was bishop of both Portland and San Francisco....shifting abusive priests, participating in the coverups, stonewalling victims and their families, etc.
Seems to me....that elevating him to the position most responsible for 'dealing' with the abuse...past, present, and future....is somewhat akin to putting the fox in charge of 'henhouse' security....and this view seems to me to be borne out by this document that is STILL INSISTING that the Bishop is to be the first line of 'investigation' of any allegations of wrongdoing by any of the clergy.
I guess what this tells me....is..
1. Levada sure hasn't grasped the enormity of the horrendous calamity that sexual abuse has wrouight in the RCC.
2. He hasn't learned a thing (Leopard doesn't 'change his spots'?) or changed since his past conduct as Bishop in North America.
3. Bennie simply cannot distance himself from him....or his pronouncements, since it was HE who elevated him to this position....and, presumably, would have to Vett the new 'guidelines'.
