Hi Jim.

Chances are very good that Putin is full of applesauce and is hoping the animated show of a potential US landfall nuclear strike is enough to scare some people or some nations. After all, the bluffing of leaders has often worked before to the benefit of their particular nations.

However, if Russia actually has perfected the Scramjet capability, which BTW no other advanced nation has managed to do, that would be another consideration.

There is a lot of good information here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scramjet

Scramjet capability has not yet been perfected by any other nation and there are multiple problems with the technology...so I doubt that using it to speed a nuclear warhead to the US in less than an hour is something the Russians can actually do.

Using conventional means, either country has had the capability of attacking via nukes, the other....but we haven't done that either. The realization of mutually assured destruction keeps such insanity at bay.

Now...the crazy fat-boy in North Korea? Who knows what he is capable of thinking is a good idea? And...yet, he is reconsidering his actions due to President Trump's insistence that he, unlike his predecessors is not interested in appeasement and will do more than just place sanctions if Kim doesn't start behaving. The way it was going, Kim was heading the world down a path to where it finally would have to reckon with him and this is because nobody had ever stood up to him.

The further real danger of Putin is that he seeks to return all the USSR's satellites to the loving arms of Mother Russia and may move soon to invade the Baltic nations. I think he had better not. The rest of his meddling and threats and war-mongering in other places may be to keep attention away from those plans.
