Some of you may already know that I work full time in a small privately owned general store not far from where we live. My main task is admin and post office duties but sometimes I’m asked to stand in early morning for dealing with deliveries, which I was today, as there wasn’t enough general staff to go round. After dealing with the delivery of...

“…..see my hands.” John 20 v.27Jesus’ hands played a very important part in His life and ministry and they also played an extremely important part in His death and resurrection. With His hands He touched the broken bodies of those who needed His healing touch and brought healing and relief to body and mind. With His hands He broke the bread and...

This afternoon after lunch and a rest we decided to take a trip out in the car with Lesley and Caleb. Although it was nearly 4pm we set off down the coastline of Loch Alsh and Loch Duich (a Loch is the same as a Lake Gayle, sorry I’ve not told you that lol), over a bridge where the river runs into the Loch and up the mountain road called the Mam...

Yesterday we went to Fort William, which is a drive of about 1 hour 45 minutes south of us,to meet up with Brenda's brother John and Linda his wife who were travelling from their home, and this was about half way for each of us. The weather was nice when we set off but we had snow storms through that part of the trip there and back which goes over ...

Hi everyone, just to say I have removed my previous blog (those who read it know what it said) because the object of posting it was to get people to pray. Thank you for your prayers. Most of you now know that those prayers are being answered. Praise Him! Love Alf

Hiya, well I'm going to blog later today when we've been out on our trip but just for now I want to post the devotional Brenda and I had in our morning quiet time today. It's from UCB's "The Word for Today" (it's British lol) and it is right in line with those wonderful studies LaNell has been sharing with us (thank you LaNell). God...

Well we had a quiet day yesterday being Lesley and Caleb's first full day here. She went over to the nearest wee village on the Isle of Skye, which is only about 10 minutes in the car over the Skye Bridge, with Caleb to visit a friend she hasn't seen for months. Then while Lesley went to have her hair done we had the great pleasure of looking...

Hi Friends, I thought today I would write you a kind of journal rather than a devotional and the reason being is that we're having a rare visit from our daughter Lesley and grandson Caleb, in fact in less than an hour from now Brenda and I will be taking the drive from our home on the west coast through to Inverness Airport which is about 85 miles ...

Hi Friends, I'm swiftly coming to the end of my day! It has been my day off work today and I'm at work all day tomorrow (Saturday). I had today off for a very special reason which was that I was asked, some months back now, to play my keyboard at a wedding at 2pm. A quite ordinary wedding by all accounts, but in an extra-ordinary location. ...

Hi Friends, this is our final study in this passage just now.“Make me, Your servant, to rejoice, O Lord, for to You do I lift myself up.” (Amp)Does it grate on you when, in your direst circumstances, well meaning people tell you to ‘pull yourself together’ or to ‘pick yourself up’? As if you could! Hey, it’s not always on the cards because, as I...

Psalm 86 v.3: “Be merciful and gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day.” (Amp)Brenda and I once sat under the ministry of a man whose interpretation of Scripture on many points seemed very plausible but we didn’t feel was entirely as God intended it to be. He often used to tell us that in prayer we didn’t need to keep praying the...

When I was a young person in my teens and twenties, I never felt I had the ambition or even the calling to be a missionary. Although I'd given my heart to the Lord at 17, being a missionary to foreign lands never tempted me and so I realised that the Lord wasn't calling me to that vocation, despite going with Brenda my then girlfriend (now my...

Well, in church this evening we had a sermon from Genesis 43 and you just can’t help feeling sorry to poor old Joseph to say nothing of his 11 brothers. It's 1939/40 and a train is waiting to leave the station. Leaning out of every window is the head and shoulders of a child. "To stay with...
Read More »About: I've been a Christian since my teens and have seen God's hand at work in my life. Jesus means everything to me. I've been happily married to Brenda for 37 years and we have 2 grown up children and 3 grandsons. He is precious to me. We are members of the Church of Scotland here in the Highlands and we live in a fantasticly beautiful area with lochs and mountains and the odd kilt and bagpipe! I play the organ at church and Brenda the flute. Our services are very traditional. We are English immigrants and came up here about 8 years ago and never regretted our move from southern England. I love chatting on here to friends and keeping in touch, praying for those in need and trying to encourge and strengthen those who need it. I love reading, taking walks into the country, star trek and British comedy programmes on TV.
