AMERICAN IDOL

Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.

Nearly everyone of us has probably watched the Television show, American Idol.  What a name!  No hesitancy at all to call it what it is.  Neither do we hesitate in calling a sports figure, Singer or musician an idol.  Children tend to make cartoon characters or comic book characters their idol.  Unknowingly, even adults place their smart phones, businesses, hobbies, and pursuits high above God in the amount of money and attention we give to them.

We think nothing of spending hundreds of dollars on the latest smartphone, or hundreds of dollars on concert or sporting event tickets.  We don’t even give a second thought to buying R.V’s, ATV’s and fancy pickup trucks so we can spend more time away from the Lord.  These have become our IDOLS and we don’t even realize it!

We don’t have time for Church or Bible study.  We complain about giving God our tithe of 10% and don’t stop to think we are spending 50 percent or more of our income on our idols in payments, time and energy.

Why is it that the first commandment and the highest commandment is the one we violate the most?  Throughout history, mankind has been determined to worship everything under heaven, of his own choosing, rather than bow before the God of Creation, the God of the Universe, the Living God Who truly deserves our worship and praise.

I could go on and on listing his attributes, proven by his performance.  He is the only God who manifests himself through his works.  We are surrounded by his glory!  We are reminded daily of his handiwork!  Our very lives are impacted by his grace and mercy!  His love for us knows no limits!  He is the only God who rewards us for our faithfulness by providing for us, healing us, comforting us, and saving us from the eternal torment of hell!

PRAYER:  Thank You Lord for loving me.  Thank You for being there for me even when I don’t realize it.  That is why I love you so much and find it easy to spend time with You so I can get to know you better.  I want to put You first place in my life.  Amen!
