“The Fall of Man, God’s Right, and Our Moral Spiral”

“…You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:16-17 NIV

　When God created man and woman, He placed them in a utopian atmosphere where they had everything they could ever want- good food, clean air and water, beautiful scenery, and all the pets they could ever wish for! But there’s more to it than all that.

God gave Adam and Eve the right of complete control- or rule - over every living thing on the earth. Pretty cool, right? But the Creator did keep one important right for Himself- He retained the knowledge of good and evil for Him alone to decide, and not man, possibly knowing how we- over time -would do our best to blur the line between the two. We’ve certainly succeeded in doing that, now haven’t we?

The fall of man began our moral spiral downward, no small thanks to Satan himself, the Great Deceiver. But he’s not entirely to blame. Our ancient ancestors made their choice freely to disobey and separate themselves, from the Father’s divine order for them. Lucifer never held a gun to their heads then, any more than he does ours, today.

The brutality, violence, injustice, and carnage, due to the ensuing immorality practiced by humankind over the following millennia’s, will forever be to our shame. Yet, through it all, God is still in control.

He knew from the beginning what we were capable of, and obeying His perfect Law wasn’t going to be one of our strong suits! That’s why He also set into place a plan for our redemption, because of His amazing love for us!

That plan- outlined in detail in John 3:16-18 -reveals to us His love and compassion, poured out upon this lost and hurting world through that bloody cross on Calvary’s hill, where Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead three days later, in victory over them!

So while the nasty now-and-now keeps on it’s downward course, we have a blessed hope for a beautiful and perfect “happily ever-after” eternity, that no man can ever take away from us! And all we have to do…is believe!
