558 SHAME AND HONOUR.

Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Can God TRUST you enough to brag about you?

God wants us to LIVE A LIFE THAT HE CAN BE PLEASED WITH.

Job was not only fearful about his life before God but also the lives of his loved ones. He acted on their behalf even though he did not know if it was necessary or not.

Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

We spend much of our time debating on God’s word and pick it apart, piece by piece but it is one word, complete, cover to cover. Job lived his life according to all of God’s word, not just some of it.

Those who shake their fist and demand to be honoured and yet have done NOTHING HONOURABLE are selfish and foolish, not knowing God or righteousness.

We read that we are to love one another and then go around looking for things we can do that will get us the approval of the ungodly of this world.

Do the ungodly know what the heart and mind of God is?

Can we honour God by doing the works of the world?

Luke 13:26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

Luke 13:27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

When we honour our God, we will do the things that PLEASE HIM.

1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

1 Thessalonians 4:2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

Yes, commandments! DO AS YOU ARE TOLD TO DO.

John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

When you obey the commands that are written in God’s word and spoken by Jesus Christ, His son, YOU ARE HONOURING GOD.

When you think another way and do the things you and the world think are right, YOU ARE SHAMING YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER.

We are not to serve the lord by trying to live to get honour from Him. We are to live to love and honour Him and He will give us the honour that He thinks we deserve.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

There is a story of a man that had his friend come to him in the night to ask for bread for a traveller that was visiting him. The man would not leave his bed because it was night and his household was settled in. This was only the man’s friend that was asking but, because his friend would suffer shame if he had not bread, the man got up and gave him bread.

Luke 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

Luke 11:6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

Luke 11:7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

Luke 11:8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

Not causing shame is more serious than friendship.

Love, honour, and shame are from the actions created in one’s heart and acted upon in the flesh.

Words are empty without the right actions to follow.

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

You cannot just ‘believe’, because belief will create actions to follow.

‘Belief’ without action dishonours our teacher and master. Those who dishonour Jesus will receive dishonour.

Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

Give shame, get shame; give honour, get honour.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Romans 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Love does not seek honour but seeks to give honour and love does not shame but seeks to act shamelessly.
