549 THIS IS NOW, PEOPLE.

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

The last days AND THE PERILOUS TIMES are here, now.

This was written to Timothy almost 2000 years ago and all that time has gone by so, why would we think that this is still a future thing?

2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Let us see…..hum, are men lovers of themselves?

We have ivory towers, fancy cars, luxury mansions, high-priced clothing, fancy jewelry, see revealing displays of our bodies, honour those who are trim and sexy (even if their head is empty), pamper ourselves while others starve; yeh, I’d say we are lovers of ourselves.

Covetous? Do we want, want, want, even when we have too much; yep, again.

Boasters? Mohamed Ali, Donald Trump, and every airheaded youth that has a microphone shoved in their face by a news reporter; yep, again. We LOVE TO BOAST.

Proud? No…..not us, surly not. We are sooooo humble that we can be proud of the fact that we are humble. Why, the whites are so good at treating the other races with equality, we in North America are just eager to welcome those who do not have very much, and our influential people are so quick to associate with those of us that are hungry most of the time. Unfortunately, yep again.

Blasphemers? Hasn’t Jesus’ name become a swear word, just as the scriptures said it would?

James 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

Yep, again. So far, we have it all today, just like God’s word in Timothy said it would be but, let us continue.

Disobedient to parents? Of course, we all know that our children are smarter than we are so; we had just better get out of their way so we do not offend them, huh? Who here has had trouble with rebellious children…..just as I thought, all of us.

Unthankful? Thankfully, not in Canada. We are the most ‘sorry’ and ‘thankful’ people and are known around the world for our speech, but we are also NOT THE MAJORITY and we don’t seem to be rubbing off on anyone else.

Unholy? Religion without love, ritual without works, a physical religion with no heart, and worst of all, no religion to compel anyone to righteousness. A big fat ‘yep, again.

But, wait, there is more.

2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Without natural affections? Oh, you mean, like, men loving men, women loving women, and people loving animals to the point of sexual abuse……yeh, THAT! Yep, big time, and they are proud of it.

Trucebreakers? Is that another title for politician? Yep, and anyone else who does not keep their promises.

False accusers? Been around to the courts, lately, and watched some of the foolishness that people are getting away with…….no? Then just read the papers and listen to the news; if you can stand to listen to all that foolishness, you are tougher than I am.

Incontinent? Yeh, I don’t know what the word means, either, so I had to look it up. Here goes; Definition of incontinent

:not continent: such as

a (1) :lacking self-restraint

(2) :not being under control

(compliments of the Merriam-Webster dictionary)

I guess, just not being able to say ‘no’ to ourselves. Anyone here like that? Whoa, every hand was up, and I had BOTH of mine up.

Fierce? Watched MMA, WWA, any late night news channel, or YouTube, lately? Nuff said.

Despisers of those that are good? Ever tried going the speed limit and NOT having someone angrily riding your tail? Or told someone the truth and had them smile thankfully and stop doing what they are doing wrong? Thought so, neither have I.(or almost never. There were some exceptions.)

Isn’t this fun, seeing God’s word fulfilled, in our world, right before our eyes? But, wait, we are not done.

2 Timothy 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Traitors. Yeh, today we call them snitches and think it is great when they give us the dirt on someone. It’s great until they turn on us. Then it is not so much fun. The trouble is WE ALL HAVE DIRT IN OUR PAST, EVEN THE TRAITORS.

Heady….hum, got to look this on up, too.

Definition of heady

headier; headiest

1 a :willful, rash

  • heady opinions

b :violent, impetuous

(Again, Merriam-Webster dictionary)

With all the impetuous violence and rash willfulness in the world, this one is also self-explaining.

Highminded. Dictionary says it means the same as Pretentious;

Definition of pretentious

1 :characterized by pretension: such as

a :making usually unjustified or excessive claims (as of value or standing)

  • the pretentious fraud who assumes a love of culture that is alien to him
  • —Richard Watts

b :expressive of affected, unwarranted, or exaggerated importance, worth, or stature

  • pretentious language
  • pretentious houses

The next one is easy. Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.

Excess of wine, women, and song, could also throw in a little speed and drugs and we have a match.

And, we are still not done yet.

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Even though this is the last one, it is, by far, not the least. How many religions does this world need, anyway? Ever notice that the religions of today are all action, but no heart religions; go to the church, temple, mosque, or meeting house, pay the required dues, say the scripted prayer, readings, hymns, mumblings, chants, or requests, dress the way you are told to, live where you are told to, and work hard for the memberships profit.

And, if you have any time left, you can take a second or two to see if God has anything He wants you to do.

Yep, describes today’s world right down to the brass buttons.

I’m glad we are almost done, I want to go home. This world is getting to bad, even for me.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
