Tolerance...

Some friends invited me to join them at a national brand Italian restaurant. I had eaten at one of the franchises in years past and was the recipient of a bad case of food poisoning but, being gracious, I agreed with reservations. I determined that I would ask the restaurant to change their menu to accommodate my aversion to their Italian fare so I could enjoy the evening with my friends because of the dreadful experience I had at another of their facilities in the past. The staff was exceedingly polite but explained that the menu was set and I was free to enjoy their all-you-can-eat salad & breadsticks free of charge. I tried to persuade my friends to leave mentioning that they too might possibly suffer the same fate by eating Italian food there, but they loved the place as much and maybe more that our friendship. I appreciated their forthrightness and hopefully didn’t ruin their meal by my comments that I hoped they didn’t get sick since the pasta sauce didn’t smell quite right to me. They only occasionally tried to talk me into trying a bite, but that old feeling of a churning stomach was more than I could overcome. I joined in the chatter and we remain friends to this day, even though I still can’t watch the restaurant’s commercials on television without feeling a twinge of tummy flip-flops!

It would seem then that it was tolerance all round then. Apart from the pasta sauce food intolerance that is. Tummies can be soooo intolerant darn 'em. We once got a couple of days disccomfort after a contaminated side salad.
