Seeking Direction

Acts 13:2-3  As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

As we begin a new year, our top priority must be to come in line with God’s will for our lives.  This applies not only to ministry but also to our daily lives.  All of our decisions must be weighed in the light of God’s Word.

The Lord does not want to keep His will from us. He does know timing is essential.  Sometimes delays are necessary and God is the only one who knows the end from the beginning.  No matter what he calls us to do, there is always someone else’s life events which need to line up with ours.

The account of Paul and Barnabas reveals to us the proper series of events which lead to being led by the Holy Spirit into the path the Lord has chosen.

  1. Study to show yourself approved: prepare
  2. Minister to the Lord: Love on Him
  3. Prayer and fasting: Listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit
  4. Act on/be obedient to the revealed will of God. Be willing to start  small.

Ministering to God is the way we develop unity and show the Lord we truly seek His will and not our own.  It helps us develop an intimate relationship with Him acknowledging Him as Lord of our lives.

Prayer and fasting helps us to make contact with God through the Holy Spirit and removes distractions, helping us to focus on Him.  We all need to listen more and talk less. “Be still and know… (Psalm 46:10)

Once the Holy Spirit speaks and reveals God’s will, it is essential we obey, no matter how ridiculous it may sound to us.  (1 Samuel 15:22)

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;  6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for helping me find my calling.  Nothing makes me happier and more fulfilled than serving you through serving others.  I rejoice when I see Your Word and the Power of the Holy Spirit radically transform a persons life.  The world offers nothing to compare with witnessing Your miraculous power and mercy saving the lost and healing the sick!
