RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

THE GOOD REPORT

Responsibility and  Accountability

James 2:15-17 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Sometimes we have a very low opinion of ourselves and have difficulty imagining that we could be of any benefit to God’s grand scheme of things.  We fail to consider He is famous for using individuals to carry out His plans.  I shared that with you a few months back.

I was inspired by a devotional I received from Pastor Greg Laurie today as he shared his thoughts on this particular issue within the Body of Christ.  Too many times we draw back from any personal commitment out of fear.  We are afraid of failure.  We don’t seem to realize most of the things we are given to do does not depend on our abilities anyway.  They are too lofty for us.  That is why God chooses to use people of little reputation.  It is through His power, ability and provision that all is accomplished anyway.  The enemy uses that fear to hinder our effectiveness and the ability of those in need to receive a touch from God through us.

When Jesus told the parable of the Talents, (Matthew 25:14-28), he revealed to us how God looks upon His servants as to how they handle their responsibilities as stewards.

I like the illustration Pastor Laurie used and I will quote it here, “I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  What I can do I should do.  What I should do, by the grace of God I will do!”

When you are presented with an opportunity to help someone and you have the ability and time to do it, take courage and step out in faith and you will certainly be blessed.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, I realize I have a responsibility as your disciple to reach out to those around me, when it is in my ability to do so.  I need to demonstrate your love for them in a tangible way.  They begin to understand you care for them through my care for them.  Thank you for reminding me you hold me accountable for how I handle the blessings you have bestowed upon me! You can take my “little” and turn it into “enough!”   Amen.

It is interesting that this came today. I was impressed while in church to compliment the person in charge of evangelism in our church for all that she does for the Body. I no sooner said that to her when she grabbed my hands and said, "I need prayer!" She explained to me how she was on the edge of everything in all that she does for the body. Long story short, being elderly, I am unable to participate in ministry; but now I do have a ministry in praying for her as she goes about what SHE is sent by the Lord to do! How awesome is that!
