1 Corinthians 15:38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

An actor goes to work with nothing but the ability to express emotions effectively.

His director chooses his part to play in the larger picture of the play. He is given his lines to speak, his emotions to display, his physical actions, his costumes to wear, his timing, his scenes, and his ending. Everything else, except himself, is provided for him.

The play is conducted under the watchful eye of the director and each part is rehearsed until it suits him.

As with the Christian, after he believes and repents, he needs to be instructed and equipped to play his part in God’s great play.

Acts 18:25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

Most actors perform better when they are personally committed to their part. They bring out their own personality and skills to make the play better for all involved.

Jesus also wants us to become personally involved in His work. He wants us to perform at our best so His kingdom will be full and the best that it can be. (Remember, His kingdom is made up of fallible Christians, like you and I. God does not make you perfect. He gives you the tools and instructs you how to use them.)

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

We take God’s instructions, tools, and abilities and put our personalities into His work to perform His will in His play. We make the outcome with our enthusiasm, or lack thereof.

John 2:17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

2 Corinthians 7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

I have heard many actors state that their performance was ‘not their best performance’ or ‘I could have been better’. We have all been there and can say that.

Quality performance comes from the heart and should be felt as well as performed.

Luke 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

God will use everyone in His play but those, who do not want to co-operate, He will give the part of the villains, and He will write in their endings in judgement.

God wants our best performances and He will reward those who put their heart and soul into His ‘play’.

1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

God will also reward those who give a half-hearted or hateful performance with His promised judgement.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

God’s play is drawing to its dramatic ending and the curtain will soon fall on this world play.

Don’t be found lacking when the call comes for the encore.

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
