491 HOW FAR WE HAVE FALLEN.

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Luke 21:35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

Surfeiting: excess. Overindulgence.

Surfeiting: When one eats too much,

Plays too much,

Works too much,

Drives too much,

Worries too much,

Sleeps too much,

Anything too much.

If I haven’t touched YOU with any of these then I just haven’t reached you.

The Lord wants us to relax and spend some quality time with Him, our families, and friends.

Isaiah 30:15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

AND YE WOULD NOT: is this our mantra today?

Let’s see. It the wilderness, God spoke to Moses…..no, He spoke to the whole congregation. He spoke to Moses face to face but the congregation in mass.

Exodus 19:9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.

When was the last time YOU heard the voice of God? Or When was the last time you SAW God in action?

The priests did, every day.

Leviticus 9:24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

When Jesus walked on the earth and did His miracles, it was not a new thing. There were miracles happening regularly but Jesus did His consistently.

John 5:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

Acts 4:16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

God walks among His people and is ready to do wondrous things to show the world that we are His.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Are WE ready and willing to act for Him?

I have done and seen miracles that the Lord has done but they are getting fewer and farther apart.

Jesus said that He did what He saw His father doing.

John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray and spent much time in prayer Himself.

That is where He and we should be getting our instructions from God; in prayer. (That means anytime, anywhere.)

I remember the weeknight prayer meetings where there was silence on many occasions while God’s people listened for God to instruct them.

Now we have radio, stereo, smart phone, Wi Fi, white noise, instant communication with those things which are not important but which fill our lives and our ears so we cannot hear God.

When was the last time you saw someone stop and listen intently for God to answer their question or request?

I remember an Evangelist named Charles Hunter doing just that almost 40 years ago in a healing seminar. When he realized we were silently waiting for him to communicate with God, he explained how he interacted with God to receive the answers he wanted, while he waited for God to communicate with him.

God was and is a real force and presence in the life of a Christian but He will not force us to wait for Him.

The pressures of this world are to get us so distracted and busy that God cannot communicate to us His will and wishes.

They are succeeding! Few wait on the Lord. Everyone is so busy.

The world is going crazy and weird while we are too busy worrying and working to help.

God can do, in a split second, what we cannot do in a hundred years of activity.

God’s scriptures do NOT lie but do we BELIEVE.

The world is going to Hell in a hand basket but we can only make a difference if we do it God’s way.

Psalms 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

You want to make a difference in this world. Wait on the Lord!
