458 FALL AWAY!

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

What does it mean to ‘fall away’?

Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

It was our belief in God’s word that led us to repentance and it is our belief in God’s word which gives us the faith to live, love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ; for He is God’s living word.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Most of us ‘fall away’ at one time or another, as we struggle to believe some of the amazing things God’s word tells us but it IS TRUE and we are to believe it(Him) whenever He speaks or directs us. (It was the living word of God, which seemed to be alive on the pages of Bill Brown’s Bible that convinced me that there was truth in it.)

That is why we are to study God’s word, spend time listening to Jesus, and trust the Holy Spirit to understand how God wants us to live.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

We are also commanded to love and watch for each other so we can all ‘live in the truth’. Those who ‘fall away’ are to be approached, with love, in an attempt to be corrected.

Hebrews 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

We have a wonderful example of two men who ‘fell away’ from Jesus and how they reacted; thus giving us a sample of attitude, which pleases God and doesn’t please God.

Judas and Peter both denied Jesus at a critical time in His life.

Matthew 26:25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

Luke 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Both repented but only one went on to serve Jesus as He wanted them to.

Matthew 27:3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

Luke 22:62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

Even though both repented, only Peter ‘lived’ for the lord. Judas took it upon himself to end his life and end his service to Jesus. Jesus did not tell him to commit suicide.

Matthew 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Jesus does not want anyone to die.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Peter was the first one to enter Jesus’ empty tomb in search of Jesus’ body.

John 20:6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

Even though Peter had denied knowing Jesus, he sought Jesus because he loved Him more than he could accept not being a part of Jesus’ life and obeying Him.

Today, we have a great ‘falling away’ from the truth. Many, who said they believe in God’s word and Jesus, are turning to sin, doubt, and denial and are doing the things, which God tells us not to do. Their only hope is to repent and come back to obedience to Jesus, God’s Holy word.

It is the end times and many will not accept the truth and be saved, but will deny the only true God and His son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said; Matthew 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Their place will be taken away and they will suffer loss.

Revelation 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Repentance is the only way to recover from ‘falling away’.
