IS THERE SIN IN THE CAMP?

THE GOOD REPORT

Joshua 7:10-11 But the Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying on your face like this? 11 Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings.

IS THERE SIN IN THE CAMP?

Joshua 7:13 “Get up! Command the people to purify themselves in preparation for tomorrow. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Hidden among you, O Israel, are things set apart for the Lord. You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you.

The nation of Israel had suffered a humiliating defeat from it’s enemies.  They could not understand why God refused to go before them into battle as before.  As Joshua earnestly prayed to the Lord, the Lord revealed to him what the problem was and how to remedy the situation.  God takes sin very seriously and the remedy he commanded was not pretty!

How many of us find ourselves frustrated because of unanswered prayer?  We begin to doubt God’s willingness to heal us and deliver us. We often place the blame on Him.  We are afraid to admit that the thing which may be holding up our healing or our deliverance is something in our life which is blocking the power of God and grieving the Holy Spirit.

We recently read the following verses from the Apostle James:

James 5:14-16 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Notice the link between healing and sin.  Obviously James recognized this connection and saw the need to deal with sin so healing would not be hindered.

When Jesus ministered to the sick, he nearly always addressed the sin issue first and then the healing or deliverance immediately followed.  They are covered by the same work of God.  Jesus said, Matthew 9:5-6 “Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? 6 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”

Un-forgiveness, anger, bitterness, and many other sins can hinder healing or even be a contributing factor to sickness and disease.  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you search your heart. If there is anything you discover, which may be hindering your answer, repent at once and receive your answer.

There are so many scriptures, which warn us concerning the sin of un-forgiveness.  It is a powerful force and very detrimental.  A person, whose feelings have been hurt, will carry a grudge. This continues to eat away at them physically and spiritually.  Turn it over to God and be free from it!  For whom the Son has set free is free indeed!

PRAYER: Dear Jesus, search my heart and expose anything that is standing between You and me.  Help me to see what may be hindering my prayers.  Help me deal with personal pride and self-righteousness, which fosters un-forgiveness.  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.  Amen!

This is SO important! I check with the Holy Spirit periodically to make sure I have no forgiveness. It is amazing how easily it can slip back in AND MOST important that we get rid of it every time it does! Blessings ~ Sarah.
