Richard L. Deemy: Editor

Acts 17:6 (NKJV) But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

There has been so much talk in the last decade about “Radical Islam” and it’s negative effects on the World.  Before that it was “Radical Communism. Before that it was “Radical Nazism.”  All resulted in millions of innocent people being killed through “ethnic cleansing” and genocide.  In sharp contrast to that, let us take a look at what being a “Radical Christian” would do to the individual and ultimately to the World.

John 10:10  The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

When we make the quality decision to commit our lives to Jesus it means becoming like him.  When you become “like” Jesus you become a “radical” Christian.  Any other form of Christianity falls far short of what Jesus expects of his disciples.  A “radical” Christian is one who is arrested for being a Christian and there is plenty of evidence to convict you.

What does it mean to be “like” Jesus?  Let’s take a look at Jesus’ description of himself.

Isaiah 61:1-3  “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives,  And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;  2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,  And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,  3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness,The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Do the actions in our lives duplicate any of these characteristics?  Is our life obtaining the same results.  Do we have the same care, the same compassion, the same love which was demonstrated in the life of Jesus?

John 14:12  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

No, we are not saved by works, but the Lord, who bought us with his own blood, expects us to produce fruit, to get results.  To reach the lost and care for those who need a touch from the Living God!

Radical Christianity will turn the world upside down!  It is the only thing that can!  The power and love of Christ, manifest in His Church, will accomplish far more good than all the politicians and scientists rolled up into one!  There are men, women and children, waiting for us to proclaim the gospel of God’s grace to them.

Romans 10:14-16 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:  “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

You may be thinking, ‘Well, I’m not called to preach!’  That may be true but you are called to “make disciples,” (Matt. 28:19)  If you appreciate what Jesus has done for you then tell someone about it.  Allow them to experience the same joy and assurance of hope in eternal life you have.

PRAYER:  Lord, forgive me for not being more obedient in telling others about your love and your desire to set them free.  Give me the courage to speak up and confess you before men so that you will confess me before the Father!  Amen
