JESUS FIRST AND FOREMOST

John 3:29-31 (NKJV) He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease. 31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

The progress or regress of our personal lives is determined by who we give authority over it.  B.C. (before Christ) we place self will in control, subject to the influence of Satan through carnal temptations.  A.C. (After Christ) we surrender to Christ, as Lord of our lives, and relinquish our control to Him insofar as whatever we do, say, or accomplish, is meant to please Him and exalt him and not ourselves.

Romans 6:16 (NKJV) Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

So very many Christians today wonder why their personal lives are such a mess.  I truly believe we all need to examine our lives to see how committed we are to Christ, not only as our Savior, but precisely as our Lord.

Too many people have made a light hearted, verbal confession of Faith in Jesus Christ without realizing he requires obedience from us.  Once we confess to being a “Christian” it is imperative we live a life demonstrating that commitment.  The Apostle James puts it this way:

James 2:17-20 (NKJV) Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

John the Baptist put it this way when addressing the Pharisees, who came to him looking at baptism as another religious duty they needed to obey to obtain God’s favor:  Matthew 3:7-9 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Our lives, as Christians, must show change and purpose made possible and directed by our submission and obedience to the Holy Spirit.  Our lives should honor and bring respect to the Name of Jesus and draw sinners to Him for salvation from sin.

Colossians 1:18 (NKJV) And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Acts 4:12 (NKJV)  Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, forgive me for not putting you first place in my life.  You are not only my Savior, but my Lord.  I am sorry if I allowed my attention to people and things in this World come ahead of you.  Please forgive me for making excuses to avoid giving you my full loyalty and devotion.  I know, when I put you first, everything else will come into balance.  Amen!
