What Creates the Desire to be Saved?

Acts 16:29-31 (NKJV)
29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
in spite of their circumstances, Paul and Silas decided to have a worship service at Midnight. They were in the secure inner prison. I am sure all the other prisoners heard them singing and praising God.
Suddenly there was an earthquake and all the cell doors sprang open and their chains were loosed. The keeper of the prison was terrified, believing the prisoners had escaped. This would require him to be killed for allowing this to happen. However, when he discovered Paul and Silas were still there, Paul reassured him no one had escaped.
The Jailers response was two fold. He was relieved that no prisoners had escaped and secondly he wanted to know what he needed to do to experience what Paul and Silas had. He recognized in them lay a peace and confidence that he did not know.
He was exposed to his own sinfulness and knew he recognized his need for a personal Savior. He simply needed someone to guide him to that experience. One who is greater than themselves, who has the ability to take them beyond where they are, and into a totally new dimension of life they have never known.
Paul explained to him how both he and his family could experience this dramatically new life. It involves a spiritual experience, not a physical one. It requires a move of the heart concerning something unseen, yet believed; A leap of faith into the unknown. A relationship which holds such power, it can change ones eternal destiny.
1 Corinthians 1:21 (KJV) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
