Politically, the island is divided into the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish Republic of Cyprus in the north. However, the latter has so far been recognized only by as a  legitimate state. The Republic of Cyprus, however belongs to Europen Union since 2004, making it's a holiday destinations. The official language in Cyprus is Greek, but in the northern part of the  island Turkish is spoken.Cyprus is considered as "the green island". At least in the Mediterranean, it is the most forested island - besides Poinsettia.

A large number of dense forests and large flat planes that are in the long stretches of coastline, shape the view of the island, giving it a special appeal. Local specialties

The list of delicacies is long. From hummus on Hallumi to paidakia (Lammkottletts), everything tastes good and freshly prepared. If you do not know the local cuisine, then you should order a Mese,  which means that you are served through a variety of dishes throughout the day.

Aphrodite, the goddess of love and George Michael, whose real name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou are probably the most famous Cypriots.


In cuisine of Cyprus you can find Mediterranean flavour, yet there are also many influences from different cultures and regions. Especially the Greek and Turkish cuisine characterizes the methods for preparation of different foods. Thus, the Cypriots love grilled dishes in all variations, stews with savory ingredients and of course refining with fresh and dried herbs, which give the food  and it has their own flavor.
