The Just and The Unjust (Part 2)

All scriptures are from KJV, courtesy of BibleGateway.com

The Unjust (not upright) is shown in Habakkuk 2:4 as someone whose soul is lifted up. Lifted up could stand for pride. It could mean that the person is proud about his or her own righteousness and refuses to believe in God and His righteousness.

Habakkuk 2:4

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

There is a clear example given in the Bible of such people.

Romans 10

1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Major disobedience is refusing to HEAR and BELIEVE the Gospel of Jesus.

When Christians are challenged to DO ACTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS in order to become Just then they have to refuse to obey and choose to stick with the MAJOR OBEDIENCE that they started out with by HEARING THE GOSPEL and BELIEVING the Gospel. Believing the Gospel and confessing it is the way that is humble. The Just are humble. That is a fruit that they have right from the start. It means that they are not fruitless. Born-again Christians are not the no-fruit kind that started out believing but fall away eventually. Don’t forget that faith will also flourish in born-again believers. Faith and humility are the result of love. You love Jesus when you believe His Gospel wholeheartedly and receive Him as Lord of your life. See how you are not a fruitless soul who will be cast into the fire and be burned?

The challenge now is to stay in God’s righteousness always. That same righteousness can be referred to as ONE MAN’S RIGHTEOUSNESS. If you try to add your righteousness to the ONE MAN’S RIGHTEOUSNESS then it becomes more than ONE MAN’S RIGHTEOUSNESS as far as you are concerned. That makes the Gospel of Jesus Christ of no effect for you.

Romans 5:16-18

King James Version (KJV)

16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

What you don’t get after you are made into a Just person is a license to do evil such as stealing, murdering, adultery, etc. You have to follow Godliness so that you can reap what are profitable for you. You strive to do so to the best of your ability. When you slip expect Jesus, your Saviour, to help you to overcome and continue to live a Godly life. The Godly living will strengthen you and keep you in the MAJOR OBEDIENCE because you will not build your own righteousness through lack of understanding and weak faith as a replacement for God’s righteousness. You will keep your own righteousness in its proper place. It belongs among your love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Against such there is no law.

Understand that you can be called unjust for a particular wrong that you are guilty of especially if you are tried by a court of law and fairly sentenced. That will never change who you are in Jesus. Your free justification will remain the same forever. You are Just with a right standing before God. You will still go to heaven when the time comes. I said in the first part that people’s righteousness before they are born-again is like filthy rags. After the new birth your righteousness will not be counted as filthy rags. Instead it will be called light and salt. You who have become Just because of the Gospel of the JUST ONE are now the CHILDREN OF LIGHT.

Rejoice! You children of the Lord!

With Love and peace to you.
