Flawless

There are four of them.  They are neatly folded and sitting on the corner of my dresser and to the right of my computer.  The prayer shawls are different colors yet, they all share one thing in common: they are flawed.

Deemed unworthy as gifts, the creator (myself) has left them sitting to gather dust.  Because they do not meet my high standard of perfection, they have been banished to the wasteland of "useless".  Discarded, the flawed prayer shawls sit awaiting my decision of what their fate will be.  For months, the shawls have sat like merchandise in a bargain bin with the sign overhead reading "Deeply Discounted Due To Imperfections".

Some of the imperfections are readily noticable, such as a change in the color of the yarn.  Some of the flaws are hidden and only by searching could one find the missed stitch or the snag in the yarn.  Regardless of the nature of the flaw, the prayer shawl was branded "unacceptable" and "unusable".

I have asked God what to do with the prayer shawls.  I kept hearing that I was to give them away.  But, they are not perfect!  They are flawed.  Right?  I would be embarrassed to give defective shawls away as gifts!  How would that look, giving someone a PRAYER shawl that was miscolored, missed stitched and well, flawed?

That is when I heard the Lord say, "You see the imperfections, I see a gift".  That was the beginning of the Flawless Prayer Shawl Ministry.  You see, God does not see us as flawed, but as flawless through the blood of Jesus.  We see the imperfections, the mistakes, the shortcomings, God see's us through the blood of Jesus and that makes each one of us FLAWLESS!

If you are feeling like your mistakes, flaws, defects, somehow have banished you to the wasteland of "useless", may I encourage you today to remember that in the eyes of God...

"You're beautiful from head to toe, my dear love, beautiful beyond compare, absolutely flawless".   Song of Solomon 4:6 (The Message Bible)

Till next time...

Diana, your blogs always speak so strongly of our Father's love. Thank you for posting this. :)

Thanks for the reminder that in Christ we are a new creation - holy (set apart) and acceptable to God so we no longer have to measure ourselves (or others) by performance. I have to remember that He who began the work of conforming me into the image of His son will be faithful to complete His good work.

Diana I know the love that went into my prayer shawl and the beauty of it ....it is no mistake we had a divine encounter today and a divine mandate when we are faithful in the little things He will be faithful to give us bigger things...I see with eyes of faith a grander scheme and I know that I know that your work is perfect in the one that took your hands to design it. I am blessed.....Hugs to you......my dearest friend and sister in Christ.

Dearest Di,
I can tell you one of the most precious gifts I've ever received is the prayer shawl from you for me and my precious Laura. I just gave it to her for totally her own a couple months ago. She loves it and as I explained what it means she was touched deeply. At 13 she is quite perceptive, despite all the barriers she continues to fight through and with. She knows God loves her but hasn't quite gotten to the understand of WHY things in her young life have been so incredibly difficult. To be able to share that my hillbilly friend from Missouri made it just for us, now her, served to me a concrete witness to His love for her, even when there are some who should love her without condition tear her down. Hugs to you.

Decades ago, I attended church conferences near Santa Fe, New Mexico. While in the area, I shopped the open market set up in the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe. I loved to buy jewelry and pottery from the native American vendors there because they were the artists who had made their wares. One old woman in particular had the most beautiful jewelry. I always bought from her, and each time she would point out the flaw in whatever I was buying. The first time I purchased from her, she was very specific in pointing out a flaw that I didn't even notice. I told her, "If you hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known it was there." She very seriously told me, "Oh, but it is important that you know it is there. I put it there on purpose. If it is perfect, it tempts the evil one. This way both you and I are protected by the flaw." After that, I simply allowed her to show me the flaw and smiled. I would love to have one of your flawed prayer shawls. :-)

About: God told Isaiah in Chapter 43:18-19 to "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland". In Chapter 48:6b, God speaks these words, "From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you". From now on, leaving the past behind and embracing all things NEW, I press on. From now on, I shall no longer speak of my past abuse as if were today's reality. From now on, I shall keep my past pain in its proper place...under the blood at the foot of the Cross of Calvary! From now on...all things are brand NEW! AMEN!
