My Letter L Meme

L for love. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'” ~ Mark 12:30

Jesus quotes directly from Exodus 20:3 (the first set of the 10 Commandments God gave Moses) and in Deu 6:8, after God gave Moses the second set of 10 Commandments.

The word love in verse 30 is translated from the Greek word agapēseis, which means, to prefer, to love, for the believer.

This is such an important commandment “Love the Lord God with ALL…” Once we pour all of our love into God then we can love thy neighbor, stop lying, stealing, coveting – and since you love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength then you obey the First Commandment "You shall have no other gods before me.” ~ Deu 5:7

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1John 4:8. This first love in v8 is the Greek verb agapōn (same as in Mark 12:30) and the second is the Greek noun agápē, meaning divine love, God loves, what God prefers. So in verse 8 those who hate, don’t love and don’t know God. If we have hate, hate becomes an idol—our main focus. Repent if you have hate, humble yourself and ask God and your neighbor for forgiveness. Don’t waste another ounce of energy on selfish, jealous feeling. Fueling hate with hate turns a small fire into a bonfire. Instead, Love God (Agápē) with all of heart, soul, mind and strength. Thus Jesus is summarizing the basis of the 10 Commandments in Mark 12:30 – once our focus and love fully on God, we are more able to obey all The Lord’s Commandments.
