God's Paintbrush

Radiating around God’s throne is a rainbow. I could imagine God’s bright Holiness, sitting with a gigantic palate of vivid colors—aqua marine, emerald, pearl, gold—to name a few. At the beginning of Creation God picks up His gigantic paintbrush, dabs into the palate and stretches His arm toward the dark void. He made the sun golden-yellow and the moon glowing white. Then He turned His attention to Earth, a colorless orb. With no effort, the deep oceans become dark blues and the shallows turquoise. He splashed sienna, tans against mountains and twisting canyons. The sky became an awesome azure, as wispy white clouds are brushed in. Oh the lovely wild flowers He delicately colors—violets, teals, goldenrod, magenta—happily pop throughout the green valley and rolling hills. Even a desert landscape deserved attention. It may seem lifeless to some us, but God sees an artist’s canvas. A sunset glows on the desert’s horizon. There are swirls of pinks, flashes of lavender and blots of peach. Shrieking is a red-tailed hawk. Near a peak, poppies are springing with yellow; bright orange-red blossom a nice addition to a cactus. What a masterpiece God has painted for our enjoyment! His zoo of medley hues. I love a ruby-throated hummingbird or a red cardinal. In a sheltered lagoon a kaleidoscopic Mandarinfish is splattered orange, striped blue and has a yellow-green face. How neat, a tree frog changes color; once green on a leaf, now turning brown on the bark. God’s paintbrush seems to move on and on. Oh it’s such a colorful world! “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all His work.” Genesis 2:1 (NIV)
