The Deck Lift, an Adventure

We have such good neighbors and I wonder about what neighbors we will have at our new house. Hopefully, they will be like Jerry, John, Jackie, Jeff – the four J’s – who at one time or another helped us out. They don’t even ask for any payment, they just graciously lend a hand.

After I came back from a lengthy doctor’s appointment (it was below 11 degrees) I was wheeled onto my deck lift. The switch was thrown off and the lift groaned and just stopped right in the middle going up. The lift came back down and we were in a bind. Mom quickly went over next door to get Jeff and across the street for Jerry.

So, I was wheeled to the front door and here comes Jeff and Jerry. Without much thought, they put me on the front porch.  Three guys Chad, my caregiver, in the back and Jeff and Jerry in the front carried me and wheelchair up the stairs. It was a bit of a struggle and there could have been an accident, but I believe God pulled us through it.  We won’t be doing that again.  Right now, the lift has a huge chunk of ice on it so I won’t be going down on it when we move. Oh well, we have to do what we have to do. This time Jerry and his buddies will carry down my wheelchair without me and then carry me down. I have to be without my breathing machine, but it is only fifteen seconds or so.
