The elderly, not a burden

Has the elderly become a burden in America?  Why do we quickly throw away our aging family members to a nursing home? Of course depending on the situation (money,time,job,space), the nursing home should be a last resort. We need to have more respect for the elderly, as they have decades of experience and a treasure of wisdom. If they are next door or afar, send them a greeting card or a quick call.  If all you do is say "Hi, how are you?" , "We love you." Or "What do you think about..."
