The Long Way Home

The Long Way Home

I love taking the long way

If I had the choice whether to get there fast and directly

Or to take the back road,

I’d always choose the back road.

You can’t always view the fire-bright red on an oak tree

Or the horses grazing

Or a little corner store

Filled with the people that give such charm and character to a special place

If you try to take the shortest distance.

So I guess it seems appropriate that finding my true home—

My peace--the real, authentic mechild of God I was created to be

Means that I need to experience the back way sometimes

That I need to take time to love the questions

To sit in silence and pray deeply

To wait for the answers

To enjoy every step of the journey

and not just rush to the destination

I’m awakened to the knowledge

that there’s so much wonder in discovering

In finally knowing who I am in this world

Learning to surround myself with the joy that is life

Choosing forgiving, instead of clinging to pain

Choosing the sunrise, instead of the darkness

Choosing joy, and letting the past be put away

Choosing love always.  Choosing the love given freely from a cross.

There is something precious about taking the long way home.

About: First and foremost, I am a Child of God. I am a single-mom of two boys, ages 17 and 14, who are the joys of my life. Through difficult circumstances in my life, God has taken my foundation of faith and deepened my love for Him. It is my desire, that through sharing my expressions, I can reach to others to share His and light and His hope. And in all things, bring glory to His name!
