A Heavy Heart
Authored by boomervet on Fri, Jul 29 2005 - 09:39 AM
Last night I suffered one of those painful times that comes with parenthood and that was placing my daughter on a plane back to Georgia to continue college. Each time her mom and I have had to do that, it has ripped a little bit of my heart away.I grew up with three brothers and a sister so I never really knew what it would be like to have a house ...Read Blog »
Words cannot describe it.
Authored by boomervet on Thu, Jul 28 2005 - 11:47 AM
I wish I could find the words this morning to describe the love I am feeling for Jesus. In the last verse of Jesus' High Priestly Prayer, John 17:1-26, Jesus prayed, "and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them." Can you imagine, Jesus prayed that ...Read Blog »
Giving that shows gratitude!

I know that we all thank God for what we receive, but when was the last time we thanked Him for what He has privileged us to give? I know some are probably saying, "There goes the preacher again talking about money." But, I am talking about giving something more important than money. I am talking about the privilege of giving the Gospel ...Read Blog »
I am always in awe!

I am sitting in my office in between worship services and praising God for the way He moved in the first service. I cannot find the words to express my praise and love for Him. If I weren't Baptist I would probably be dancing (ha!).Holiness, as the song says, is what I long for. I long for it because I know that would please my heavenly Father. ...Read Blog »
Internet, What a Tool!
Authored by boomervet on Fri, Jul 22 2005 - 09:40 AM
Well, our church web site is up and running. It may not be the fanciest with all the latest bells and whistles with scrolling marquies, but to me it is beautiful because one of our church members has taken this on as his ministry. Putting a web site together, and keeping it updated, is a big task that takes a lot of time. As a pastor it makes my ...Read Blog »

This morning was a great morning for our church. We had our first Missions Conference and I believe it was a hit. My heart's desire is to see the members of FBC Pearl City catch a passion for personal involvement in missions. My goal is that 50% of our adult membership will be personally involved in a missions project each year.Have you ever heard ...Read Blog »
Called to Serve

This morning during my quiet time I read this statement from My Utmost for His Highest: "The reality of God’s presence is not dependent on any place, but only dependent upon the determination to set the Lord always before us. Our problems come when we refuse to bank on the reality of His presence." Do we truly believe that God is present ...Read Blog »

It is only 9:00 o'clock in the morning and already God has brought to me two divine appointments. These two appoinments helped to confirm a couple of things I have been pondering and wondering whether it was God leading me or not.Over the last couple of weeks God has arranged divine appointments for me every time I've had a decision to make. What ...Read Blog »
A Vision of the Future, What Joy!
Authored by boomervet on Thu, Jul 21 2005 - 10:42 AM
It isn't only our realization of the presence of the Master that can help us through those difficult times, but it is also our vision of the future. I talked about this in a posting a couple of days ago, but yesterday I came across a statement of Charles Spurgeon that really drives it home. He said, "In our Christian pilgrimage, it is good to ...Read Blog »

I am so sorry that I haven't been able to post a blog in several days, but I have been busier than a one legged cat trying to bury a mouse on a frozen lake. It is so good to be doing God's work.A friend gave me a book to read the other day, as if I didn't have anything else to do, titled Wisdom, The Principal Thing. It is a commentary on the book ...Read Blog »
Joy In Serving

Yesterday was such a wonderful day of worship. It was the type of worship day that you didn't want to come to an end. This morning I began to reflect upon it and as I did, I thanked God again for allowing me to serve Him as a pastor. I still find it hard to believe that God is using me in this way. It's at times like this that I feel sorrow over ...Read Blog »

Today while reading one of the many books which are beginning to pile up on my desk, I came across this statement: True friendship is one of God's most precious gifts. How many of us can honestly say we have at least one true friend? Here are several passages from the Bible which deal with true friendship:Proverbs 27:9, Oil and perfume make the ...Read Blog »
What about the workplace?

I have been asked the question about how does loving your enemy relate to situations at the workplace especially in relation to the boss? I have not always been a full-time pastor so I have experience in the secular work environment. For 15-years I worked for a major defense contractor.I have come to believe that God has given each of us talents ...Read Blog »

This past week was another one of those weeks where I just couldn't seem to get my message together. Every time this has happened in the past it has been because God was trying to teach me the lesson first, and this week was not an exception.I am preaching through the Gospel of Matthew and today's message was from chapter 6, verse 1-18. Rigors of the Christian Life

I have a pastor friend in the mainland who contacted me by e-mail about the trials he and his family are going through. He told me that he felt like giving up and just living the rest of his life in seclusion because he couldn't handle the pain any more.We have all been there. We have committed our lives to the Lord and instead of things going as ...Read Blog »

Have you ever felt like you are being pulled in all different directions? Boy, this morning was one of those mornings. I felt like I was running in a 26-mile marathon and was on the last mile. Last Wednesday, after much thought and prayer, my wife resigned from her job. It was not a very good work environment and took too much of her time away from the things she wants to do in ministry. We are now just trusting the Lord for the finances we need and we know that He is faithful. Today, however, my wife has launched her on-line Christian ...Read Blog »
We must test the spirits!

In our modern day world where the word "tolerant" has become popular, we as believers need to be careful. This word has been used incorrectly in the church by Christians with good intentions. "Tolerant" does not mean we have to accept other people's views in the church if they run contrary to the teaching of Scripture. For ...Read Blog »

I hope and pray everyone had a great 4th of July. I don't know about you but holidays give me a chance to think about how God has blessed me. Yesterday I didn't get to post a message because it was one of those bad hair days, and you know it has to be bad if a bald man is experiencing it. The Stealing Of Time
Authored by boomervet on Fri, Jul 01 2005 - 10:54 AM
One of the things that has become apparent to me over the last few years is that Satan has stolen our time; or could it be that we have willingly surrendered it to him? I once heard a preacher, I can't remember who, say that you can tell a lot about a persons walk with the Lord if you can look in their checkbook. That may be true, but I believe it ...Read Blog »

There is a curve in the road!
Authored by boomervet on Wed, Jun 29 2005 - 11:54 AM
Have you ever noticed that just when you think everything is now falling into place you come to a curve in the road? There is this thought among some Christians that the power of God in our life should pass us over all trials and conflicts; everything should be smooth sailing. That is not the case however. The fact is, the power of God working in ...Read Blog »
Religious Displays in Public

The latest ruling of the Supreme Court concerning the display of the Ten Commandments apparently has left many people still confused over the issue. For us as believers, this should have come as no shock to us. For the past 40 years the courts have done all they can to take any recognition of God out of the public arena. These are sruggles we are ...Read Blog »
