BOWL BIOGRAPHY Woodturning consists of using a wood lathe to bore or cut away wood to achieve a disired shape. The bowls shown here were made out of half a log. Each piece is then sanded to achieve a smooth surface. Next the wood is sealed, then coated with a tung-oil finish (2-3 coats). Finally, I apply bri-wax and buff each piece, this produces it's sheen.
Most of the wood used in my turnings are salvage from damaged trees. I mainly use woods native to Southeast U.S. Namely: Magnolia, Chinese Talow (Popcorn), Maple, Sweet Gum, River Birch, Poplar, Cherry and Camphor. Each piece is numbered by species, dated and signed. "I thank GOD for giving me talent and ability to hold the tools, that cut away the shavings, that reveal the beauty GOD put in wood for us to enjoy." |
